IN HIS SHADOWS 1

"Slightly closing her eyes against the daylight that filled the room, she turned to the bedside table and picked her phone.

9a.m! I must have slept soundly o she thought as she placed her hands on her forehead. So much that I didn’t even notice when he stood up from the bed for his Saturday’s morning jogs. She knew she really deserved it if she didn’t want to break down because work had been so busy and demanding, not to talk of her duty as a wife and a mother, plus the stress of living in Lagos.

“Thank God for Rhekia, she had been of great help to me.
She yawned tiredly as she went on her knees, singing and thanking God for the gift of life.

“The shouts of mummy, mommy brought her out of her meditation mood as they barged into the room and jumped on the bed.

“Sleepy, sleepy! The sound of her husband’s voice filled the room as he walked up to her and hugged her. I hope you were able to catch enough rest?

“Yeah, I did! She smiled tiredly as she looked at her girls; won’t you give mommy a good morning hug? She asked as she opened her arms wide to them.

"I am sorry, mummy woke up late and couldn’t prepare your breakfast for you on time. She said as she hugged them, looking over at her husband who was sitting by the bedside table, watching them with so much joy written all over his face.

“Do not be sorry mommy! Daddy prepared food for us already. Her eldest daughter said as her eyes beamed with excitement and admiration for her dad.

“Daddy said mommy is tired and we should not disturb her. Her youngest daughter chipped in too.

Wow… that is good right? She asked looking thankfully at her husband. Isn’t daddy the best daddy in the world? She laughed as her daughters chorused “Yes”.

“Thank you Jesus, for this awesome family you’ve given to me. I won’t take this for granted. She said gratefully in her heart as her eyes moistened with tears of satisfaction and joy.

Go brush your teeth dear, I will ask Rhekia to bring in your food.

As she stood up from the bed to go to the restroom, her phone rang. “Remi! She exclaimed!

I have completely forgotten that Remi is coming here today o. She said to her husband before she picked up the phone.

“Remi, bawo ni? Shey o ti fe gbera ni?  (Are you about to take off?)

O ya yin o,(you are just asking me) I’m at the airport jor, come and pick me up.

Ha! Okay, just find somewhere to sit. I will meet you in an hour max. She said as she ended the call.

“Remi is here! She announced. Let me get dressed, and I think you all should do too.
